More than 20 LNG carrier newbuildings were not delivered last year as originally planned and have been held back at shipyards as they await call up for US production projects that have delayed their scheduled start-ups.
Consultants and brokers point to the vessels contracted for the Cameron LNG and Freeport LNG projects in the US, both of which were originally due to kick off operations this year.
