Shipping capacity will widen to include new commodities such as biofuels, water and additive manufacturing, according to a new report by DNV GL.

Its Energy Transition Outlook series includes a Maritime Forecast to 2050 report, which predicts "substantial shipping capacity" will be needed for diverse trades in that time frame.

For example, Japan is piloting imports of liquid hydrogen (H2) from Australia for decarbonising heat and transport use after approving 12 gigawatts of installed capacity.
