Tigger four released

A bunker barge crew hospitalised after a gas leak on an Exmar vessel have been released.

The seafarers were taken to hospital for precautionary examination having been exposed to ammonia during the incident in Houston on Friday.

A statement issued on behalf of Exmar said the men have been discharged in good health.

The spill occurred aboard the 38,450-cbm Sombeke (built 2006) on Friday night after a gasket blew as the vessel was going through a cool down phase before transferring gas to the Houston Ammonia Terminal.

Exmar says the chief officer and chief engineer have now donned full gas suits and been able to replace the gasket.

The ship has now been released by the US Coast Guard and is set to discharge its cargo.
