Classification society DNV GL announced it has signed an LOI at SMM in Hamburg with Hartmann Schiffahrts Gmbh & Co. KG, Jaccar Holdings, and HB Hunte Engineering for five of what are being dubbed Eco Star ethane fuelled 85,000-cbm vessels.
No details of the shipyard or charterer involved or the intended delivery date on the vessels were released.
DNV GL said the ships will be the largest ethane carriers to be built but claims their technical features represent “a breakthrough” for the industry.
