The Korean yard said on its website that the 174,000-cbm vessels have been ordered by an unnamed Asian company.
They will be delivered by 2018 to transport US shale gas.
The eco-designs will have dual-fuel engines to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, Samsung said.
TradeWinds has previously reported that Japan’s Mitsui & Co was set to order a further three 174,000-cbm ships for the Cameron LNG project in the US.
