The agreement will see MES sell a 40% stake in its Yura shiprepair yard to KHI.

KHI currently carries out some ship repair work at its Sakaide Shipyard but market sources say it is planning to cease repair activity there and concentrate exclusively on newbuildings.

KHI is an LNG and VLGC shipbuilder and is confident that the importation of shale gas into Japan will lift demand for repairing of VLGC and LNG carriers by domestic owners.
