The gas carrier market has split in two with LNG shipping facing too much supply and not enough demand, and LPG tankers enjoying a buoyant market, two market experts said.

But LNG appears in the process of hitting bottom with more potential upside in the coming years. LPG, though, may be meeting its peak as more carriers hit the water.

Clarksons Platou research head Omar Nokta told the joint shipping conference of the Hellenic-American and Norwegian-American chambers of commerce in New York that LNG shipping will continue to face a challenging 2016.
