Swedish tanker owner Sirius Shipping is installing online monitoring systems across its fleet of 10 vessels.

The company is trying to avoid unscheduled stoppages in the engine room.

It has opted for manufacturer SKF’s IMx-8 system, whose sensors detect machine parts and transmit signals online to SKF’s diagnostic centre in Hamburg.

“They are aware of deviations and can see immediately if we have gone in to carry out any service measures on the machinery.
