Erma First, a Greece-based manufacturer of ballast water treatment systems (BWTS), said it won US Coast Guard (USCG) type approval for its product.

The approval for the system, called Erma First BWTS Fit, was granted on 18 October, the company said in a statement. It's the first full-flow electrolysis BWTS vendor to get it, Erma First said.

So far, the USCG has given approval to systems from five BWTS manufacturers: Optimarin, Alfa Laval, OceanSaver, Sunrui, and Ecochlor.
