The best result for many years — or maybe even ever — has been reported by the London Steam Ship Owners' Mutual Insurance Association.

The club rang up a surplus of $27.3m, lifting the free reserve by a corresponding amount to $188m.

Most of the bottom-line profit came from a remarkably good investment performance, which brought a gain of $26.7m — a return of 8.4%.
