The prospect of the West of England Ship Owners' Mutual Insurance Association making a return of premium to members is looking good with just a couple of weeks to go to the end of the first half of the protection-and-indemnity (P&I) policy year.

The financial strength of the West of England Club has increased substantially over recent years, with chairman Francis Sarre of Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) conceding this “now raises the question of the extent to which a pure mutual club should continue increasing its capital strength".
