Greek authorities and a UK insurer have come under fire for a clean-up operation described as astonishingly poor following a slick caused by the sinking of the tanker Agia Zoni II.

The 3,200-dwt ship (built 1972) went down eight days ago near Salamis Island, with some of its 2,500 tonnes of fuel reaching Athens beaches last week.
