Delays in getting the Bristol P&I Club afloat have led to Hugh Bryant investigating if premiums could be determined in an alternative way.

Bryant is talking to artificial intelligence experts about the concept of bespoke protection and indemnity (P&I) cover being provided by an app accessed via a smartphone or desktop computer.

The aim is to adapt ideas from the motor or personal lines insurance business, where the cost of cover might be based on distance driven, speed and factors such as cornering, braking, acceleration or how healthy an individual’s lifestyle is.
