Germany’s W. Bockstiegel Reederei will pay a penalty of $750,000 for falsifying records on a cargoship that discharged oily water into the sea off the US.

The owner of the 3,500-dwt Nils B (built 1998) had pleaded guilty in San Diego federal court last month.

US District Judge Dana Sabraw ordered Bockstiegel to pay a fine of $500,000 and to make a community service payment of $250,000 for the benefit of the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Times of San Diego said.
