Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine and Sweden’s Wallenius were among owners denied extension requests for meeting US rules on discharging ballast water, according to records from the US Coast Guard.

The denials come as the agency tells owners to seriously consider one of the three USCG type-approved ballast water management systems (BWMS) currently on the market, or find other ways to treat their ballast discharge.
