Insurers and reinsurers are waging a $7m legal fight over whether StormGeo should be held liable for their losses from the sinking of El Faro in 2015.

Great American Insurance Co of New York, QBE Seguros, Universal Insurance Co and several Lloyd's syndicates filed the case in a US federal court in Jacksonville alleging that the weather data supplier's Applied Weather Technologies system on the TOTE Maritime-owned combination containership ro-rowas defective.
