Seamaster Logistics has launched litigation targeting Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) in an effort to deflect anticipated claims from a 2016 collision between two containerships in the East China Sea.

The US logistics firm lodged the lawsuit in a federal court in New York over the incident involving the 4,300-teu Safmarine Meru (built 2006) and 8,910-teu Northern Jasper (built 2009).

The collision led to a fire on the Safmarine Meru, leading owner AP Moller-Maersk to declare general average.
