Panama's government approved new tolls for the Panama Canal in an effort to increase containership usage for back-haul voyages.

The country's Cabinet Council approved the new tolls following the recommendation of the Panama Canal Authority's (ACP) board of directors.

After announcing the new toll structure 1 June, the ACP asked for customer feedback on the proposal. It said 12 representatives of associations, shipping lines and shippers provided feedback on the new tolls, which will go into effect 1 October.
