The detention of an OOCL vessel in Australia over food-waste dumping has been upheld.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal affirmed the decision to hold the 4,578-teu OOCL Le Havre (built 2010) in May, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said.

The vessel dumped food waste near Fraser Island and was detained in Brisbane on 24 May.

AMSA found that its safety management system had failed to ensure crew had an adequate understanding of the rules and regulations related to the management and discharge of garbage at sea.
