Taiwanese politicians want container line Yang Ming to combine with a port company to combat the shipping downturn.
The country's ministry of transportation and communications has been urged to consider a merger with Taiwan International Port Corp (TIPC) by members of the transportation committee, according to the Taipei Times.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Chen Ou-po said he was against the government’s plan to offer the shipping industry, particularly Yang Ming, a TWD 60bn ($1.87bn)
