HMM boosts Asia-US volumes by 55%

Korean owner sees west coast trade grow in January as market share increases.

Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has seen Asia to US west coast box volumes jump 55.3% in January.

Cargo rose year-on-year from 9,594 teu per week to 14,899 teu at the end of the month.

Its market share in the trade has grown to 7.5%, up 2.6% from 2016.

HMM said: “Our volume and market share have gradually increased since Hanjin Shipping’s receivership.

“We recently achieved upgraded credit rating of BB (stable) which helps to rebuild trust with customers. We have many customers who show their trust in HMM.”
