NYK is to transport fresh Japanese agricultural goods to Europe in special containers in a move designed to undercut airlines.

It says it can move produce on its boxships for 10% of the price of airborne freight.

The owner plans to launch the service this year.

If successful, it could expand the project to ship European agricultural goods to North America and then North American cargoes to Japan, the Nikkei daily reported.
