Borealis Maritime is stepping back from the boxship market where there are too many buyers so it can focus on off-market, bank-related deals, says founding partner and chief executive Christoph Toepfer.

The London-based operation remains among the leading buyers of distressed shipping assets, having last year added seven vessels to its 70-plus fleet of boxships, bulkers and chemical tankers.

But its attitude has shifted in recent weeks, during which it has not pressed ahead with potential containership purchases.
