A stricken Greek reefer abandoned by its crew in the South Atlantic has been taken under tow.

The Merco Press agency said the 520,787-cbf Uruguay Reefer (built 1993) has been moved away from the Falkland Islands conservation zone, according to owner Baltmed Reefer Services.

One of its own vessels carried out the towing operation.

The ship, which suffered water ingress after reportedly hitting ice on 7 May, is now in international waters approximately 202 nautical miles north east of the islands' capital Stanley.
