JR Shipping is expanding its management in the container feedership sector.

The Dutch operator has taken management of two 880-teu feeder vessels, the Expansa and Externo (both built 2012), as part of a debt restructuring deal involving Germany’s Bremer Landesbank.

The move comes amid expectations of a recovery in the feeder containership sector, says managing director Sander Schakelaar.

The two vessels are based on the Mawei 870 design, of which nine units have been built since 2008, according to Alphaliner.
