India's Shreyas Shipping & Logistics has seen profit soar in the first quarter as revenue rose.

The containership owner said net profit was INR 204.6m ($3.19m) to 30 June, from INR 48.7m in 2016.

Revenue was up 39% to INR 1.17bn over the same period.

It called the numbers "encouraging" as volumes rose and freight rates increased.

The company broke into breakbulk earlier this month by agreeing to buy a multipurpose ship, with another potentially being lined up for acquisition.
