MSC plumps for scrubbers in mega boxships binge

Liner giant closes in on 11 supersize newbuildings while mulling lengthening projects for 14,000-teu vessels

Containership owner and operator Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) is homing in on an order for up to 11 supersize boxship newbuildings worth close to $1.5bn but looks set to shun gas-fuelling.

Brokers reveal that MSC is close to signing up with Samsung Heavy Industries for up to six 22,000-teu vessels and is expected to turn to DSME for a further five.
