Greek owners are being tempted to take containerships out of lay-up in response to the stronger charter market.

Ioanna Procopiou-led Sea Traders is said to be in talks to reactivate vessels to take advantage of the improved prospects for maxi-panamax (4,800 teu to 5,300 teu) and wide-beam designs.

Brokers expect the Greek owner to take the 5,086-teu Sofia I and Cornelia I (both built 2010) out of layup in the next few weeks, influenced by charter rates approaching $12,000 per day.
