Brazilian cabotage operator Log-In Logistica Intermodal is spending $28.5m to secure a feeder containership newbuilding from a Chinese yard.

The Rio de Janeiro-based firm has acquired a 2,700-teu wide-beam vessel from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard after failing to buy an identical design as a resale.

Log-In has been looking for such a ship after taking the decision in July to axe a contract for three long-delayed 2,800-teu vessels under construction at Brazil’s troubled Estaleiro da Ilha SA (EISA) yard.
