Hamburg Sud will no longer carry passengers on its owned vessels following its takeover by Maersk Line.

Chartered-in vessels are exempted from this, however, Cybercruises reported.

Maersk Line confirmed the move to TradeWinds.

The change brings the German company into line with Maersk group policy.

But Hamburg-Sud Reiseagentur (HSR) will continue its agency activities in the cargo-passenger trades.

Bookings for passengers on Hamburg Sud's own tonnage will be valid until the end of next year.

Maersk itself used to carry passengers when it started running ships between the US and Asia in 1928, continuing until the 1950s.
