Boxship companies may have a hard time keeping pace with last year's improved numbers due to ongoing overcapacity, according to Fitch Ratings.

The New York credit rating agency says 2017 losses by some players show the problem may continue weakness in sector fundamentals and deter longer-term recovery.

Overcapacity may lower this year's freight rates, hampering attempts to maintain 2017's level of profitability, Fitch said in a report released today.
