Fincantieri is seeking to muscle in on a deal involving the sale of a Romanian shipyard to a Dutch rival.

The Italian shipbuilder has submitted an offer to the government to participate in the management of Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI), with a view to buying 49% of the share capital, according to Romanian media.

The move comes after the government in Bucharest put the brakes on the sale of a majority stake in the shipyard to Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands, which is seeking to expand its shipbuilding and shiprepair facilities on the Black Sea.
