A slump in containership scrapping activity has led Alphaliner to slice its expectations for 2018.

It counts just 12 container vessels of a combined 21,778 teu sold for recycling so far this year.

As a result, its analysts are now forecasting just 200,000 teu of boxships to be scrapped in 2018.

“This number could be revised downwards further if the currently slow pace of ship-breaking does not pick up in the coming months,” its weekly report said.
