Potential for a substantial earnings recovery for container lines in the coming quarters is “rapidly diminishing”, Alphaliner warns.

Its caution comes amid a disappointing further quarter for the world's liner giants and despite continued expectations financial targets for 2018 will be met.

“Rising bunker and vessel charter costs, coupled with weak freight rates and continued supply side pressure from the delivery of new containerships, all weigh down on carriers’ margins,” Alphaliner analysts wrote in its weekly report.
