CMA CGM has sunk EUR 5m ($5.8m) in fitting 17 containerships with US Coast Guard (USCG) approved ballast water management systems (BWMS) made by France’s company BIO-SEA.

BIO-SEA’s ultraviolet treatment systems are one of the few that are compliant with both USCG and International Maritime Organization requirements.

They will be placed on nine newbuildings and retrofitted on eight existing vessels owned by Rodolphe Saade-led CGA CGM.
