Containership spot freight rates between China and the US have surged over 20% in the past fortnight, according to a top Asian shipping analyst.

“The rise has been driven by the peak season, some frontloading of cargo shipments in anticipation of further tariff hikes and freight rate increases and the carriers’ capacity rationalization,” says Corrine Png, head of Singapore-based equity research outfit Crucial Perspective.
