Co-financers HSH Nordbank, Commerzbank and an unnamed Norwegian lender are asking about 7,000 small investors in the Santa-B fund to sanction the disposals, Die Welt reported.
The vessels are a combination of 1,800 teu and 2,800 teu.
They are only earning $6,000 per day, which is not enough to repay loans, operating costs and interest.
The banks would waive repayment of a 2008 cash distribution as a result of any sale.
