Over 1.6m teu of new capacity is due for delivery in 2014, according to Alphaliner.
Newbuildings to be delivered to the top 20 carriers, including chartered units, account for more than three-quarters of the tally, or 1.28m teu. That compares with 1.25m teu in 2013.
Alphaliner notes that only three of the main carriers – NYK, K Line and Zim – have no newbuildings due in the next 12 months.
