The company said: "Volumes and financial performance on DFDS' route between Germany and Russia continue to be lower than envisaged."

It is dropping one of two ships on the run from June.

This vessel will then be used to launch a new freight route between Travemunde and Klaipeda on 6 June as demand grows.

And, due to robust demand in the Baltic, it will swap tonnage on its Karlshamn and Kiel to Klaipeda routes to boost capacity from the former.
