SCI axes two more

Shipping Corp of India (SCI) has torn up contracts for two more newbuildings over delays.

“We have cancelled one containership ordered at STX Dalian and one anchor-handling, towing and supply vessel (AHTS) ordered at ABG Shipyard,” a spokesman for the Mumbai-based company told the Livemint website.

The decision was taken due to delays in delivery, he added.

The boxship is a 6,500-teu vessel due this year.

SCI now has five new ships on order: two VLCCs, two AHTSs and another 6,500-teu boxship at Dalian, but this may also be cancelled.

The company said on Thursday it had received a refund from Dalian for hull 2132. It paid a deposit of INR 1.05bn ($18m) from the proceeds of its follow-on public offering in 2010.

TradeWinds reported last year that SCI cancelled a 3,500-teu boxship at China’s Rongcheng Shenfei Shipbuilding after delays.
