China rejected the containership alliance on Tuesday on the grounds it could eliminate or restrict competition in the Asia-Europe market, a decision which caused the three partners to abandon the venture.
Maersk group CEO Nils Andersen said: “The decision does come as a surprise to us, of course, as the partners have worked hard to address all the regulators’ concerns.”
