WWL wins terminal

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has won a deal to develop a ro-ro terminal in Melbourne.

The car carrier company's Melbourne International Ro-Ro Automotive Terminal (MIRRAT) venture has been selected for the $40m project at Webb Dock West.

“We are delighted for MIRRAT to be afforded this opportunity in Melbourne, and look forward to developing a terminal that all stakeholders, meaning the port, vessel operators, car and equipment importers, and the community can all take pride in,” said Christopher Connor, president and CEO of WWL.

Construction of the terminal will begin in late 2014 and once operational, will have the capacity to handle up to a million units per year.

Reports earlier this year said WWL was one of two bidders vying for a 26-year lease.
