AP Moller-Maersk announced the death of former director Ib Kruse "with great sadness."
"Ib Kruse will be remembered for his great and professional work in the AP Moller-Maersk Group for more than 50 years," an obituary stated.
It added his loyal work had left a "lasting imprint."
Kruse joined Maersk aged 18 in 1950 in New York, becoming personal assistant to owner Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller in 1955 - the beginning of a "close and trusting relationship."
