Analysts at Alphaliner say the number of boxships of over 500-teu laid-up fell to 119 vessels totalling 230,900-teu as at 28 July.

It is the lowest level since August 2011 helped by vessels in the 500-teu to 2,000-teu declining from 97 to 85 vessels.

Alphaliner said the fall is mostly caused by the extra ships needed to cater for severe port congestion at Manila and in Tunisia, where ships have to wait between two and four weeks for a berth.
