On 31 August all commercial shipping operations at Port Sultan Qaboos, which currently has a container terminal and some breakbulk cargo facilities, will be shifted to the Port of Sohar, a vast industrial and commercial port complex built about a decade ago.
Omani officials say Sohar is better equipped to handle the country’s growing cargo volumes, which in Muscat has led to unacceptable levels of congestion in the city’s narrow streets.
