The joint development project will see them work together to develop a vessel concept based on a 16,300-teu containership design by HHI, the South Korean shipyard group.
It would also utilise a membrane containment system designed by France's GTT, which specialises in such systems.
DNV GL will evaluate economic feasibility based on the classification society's Ready Step 1 procedure.
The ship would target the Asia-to-Europe trade, which would require passing through an emissions control area with stringent sulphur restrictions.
