The Danish carrier is planning its first order of boxships since 2011 as part of plans to invest $15bn on newbuildings, containers and retrofits between 2015 and 2019.

Chief executive officer Soren Skou told analysts at Maersk's Capital Markets Day in Copenhagen today that the new ships would likely be ordered in the coming year.

He said Maersk's current orderbook was not sufficient to grow with the market, so the company needs 425,000 teu of new capacity for delivery between 2017 and 2019.
