For 2015 to 2016, it is focusing on “rate objectives” – a minimum level - rather than scheduled general rate increases (GRIs) that can be hard to make stick.

The idea is that tariffs reflect cost impacts in loading and handling and achieve full recovery of rising intermodal costs due to inland transport capacity and congestion issues.

It said: “Container shipping lines in the Asia-US trade lane face significant cost and operational challenges in 2015-16 as they manage inland rail and truck capacity shortages, and sharply higher mandated fuel costs beginning in 2015."

It
