In a statement issued Tuesday morning New York-quoted GSL identified the carrier as the seller of a containership that it agreed to acquire for $55m in September.

The company also confirmed reports that the vessel in question is the 8,063-teu OOCL Tianjin (built 2005), which has been chartered back to OOCL for up to 39 months.

In a note to investors chief executive Ian Webber applauded the deal, which serves as a testament to the success of efforts to diversify GSL’s portfolio of time charters.
