The Modification Excellence Award was presented by the classification society for completed work on seven 13,100-teu boxships.
This will result in 15% less energy usage, which amounts to annual savings of almost $4m, DNV GL said.
The ER-controlled vessels implemented the Route Specific Container Stowage notation and their draught was increased by 0.5 metres, creating extra space for 542 teu.
The changes include bulbous bows, energy efficient propellers, engine modifications and cargo boosting.
